Big Black Mountains Challenge 2019

A massive thank you to everyone that was able to come and enjoy a fantastic sunny day in the hills with us at this years event.

If you’d like to do it all again next year (or come and join us for the first time), Big Black Mountains Challenge 2019 will be on Saturday 18th May, 2019.

On-line entries will open in early January 2019

BBMC 2018 – entries opening soon!

It’s that time of year again!  Entries for this years event will open the week beginning 15th January 2018.  This years event will include some exciting changes.  Whilst the challenge of the longest route (route A) will remain unchanged from recent years, we have made a change to the other two routes.  Both routes B and C will be run in the opposite direction from usual this year – a return to an older tradition of alternating the direction of the routes each year.  So this year the routes will start with the climb of Loxidge Tump before heading off down the Offas Dyke path towards Hay Bluff.  For those that have done the event before, once up on the ridge we hope you’ll enjoy seeing the stunning views (weather permitting) from a different angle.

The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service

We are proud to announce that Longtown Mountain Rescue Team has today received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary service.  This has been granted for our service to the public for saving lives in remote places for more than 50 years.  The award is in recognition of the work carried out by all the team’s members past and present and they should all be very proud.

Entries for Big Black Mountains Challenge 2017 are…Open!!

Entries for this years Big Black Mountains Challenge are now open!!! Just go to the BBMC page on the team’s website and click on the big red “go to on-line booking form” button and follow the links. As usual places are limited so to avoid being disappointed please book your place as soon as possible.

BBMC is the teams biggest fundraising event of the year and goes a long way towards raising the £25,000 – £30,000 needed each year to run the team. The team are also currently raising funds to purchase a new incident control vehicle. We are therefore very grateful to everyone who pays to enter. If however you feel you can raise further donations for the team that would be brilliant. There are a few ways to do this:

1. you can download a sponsorship form from the BBMC page

2. or you can set up your own Big Black Mountain Challenge 2017 fundraising page

We look forward to see you all in May
