Three Peaks Trial 2011

On the 26th March the team supported the Cardiff Outdoor Group in the running of the annual Three Peaks Trial.  On the day team members manned the summit checkpoints on each of the four challenging routes and also provided first aid cover.  In a record year, 860 walkers undertook one of the four routes, thankfully in dry conditions.  This is the third year that the team has been involved in the event and it is one that we greatly enjoy.

In 2010 £4,766 was raised from the the 48th Three Peaks Trial. This was split between the team and the Elenydd Wilderness Trust to help maintain the remote Ty’n Cornel and Dolgoch Youth Hostels also the National Trust, owners of Sugar Loaf and Skirrid Fawr, for footpath maintenance.  The proceeds from the 2011 Three Peaks Trial will again be split between the team, Elenydd Wilderness Trust, National Trust and also the Ruperra Conservation Trust.

On a busy day for the team we also responded to a call out to evacuate a mountain biker with a broken leg from the Sugar Loaf.

Fund Raising Calendars 2011

A big THANK YOU to everyone who has bought one of this years calendars and also to the shops that have stocked them for us.  The calendars have again proved very popular and sales have raised almost £1000 for the team.  We hope to produce another one for 2012, so look out for it going on sale in October

Swift Water Rescue Training

This weekend saw the team spend time familiarising themselves with recently purchased swift water rescue equipment, as part of a new area of training for team members.  The equipment will enable the team to safely search for people in and around the rivers, reservoirs and canals within the teams operational area. The equipment, which includes dry suits, personal flotation devices (PFD), helmets and throw lines, has been predominantly purchased thanks to a bequest made to the team by the late Helen Charman. The donated funds went a very long way, as the team were able to negotiate purchase of a large amount of the equipment from West Mercia Police that was surplus to requirements. We are very grateful to Andrew Milne, Dog Section Inspector of West Mercia Constabulary for his invaluable support and efforts and the money went to good use again as it enabled the dog section to purchase another Police dog!
