Team members assist in Cairngorm rescue

On 28th December, two team members, James Moverley and Matt Tyler, along with their climbing partner, Steve Graham were heading into Coire An t-Sneachda near Aviemore in the Cairngorms whilst on a winter climbing trip when they met four climbers attempting to evacuate a member of their party with an ankle injury.

Although the group had contacted the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team who were on route, in worsening conditions James and Matt took the decision to organise an evacuation. Using equipment from a nearby stretcher post they packaged up the casualty and along with the climbers friends and other nearby climbers began a carry out.

On route to the Aviemore ski centre and a waiting ambulance, the group was met by members of the Cairngorm team who, impressed with the fast evacuation that had been organised were happy to let the group complete the carry out.

The casualty, who ironically had also travelled up from South Wales as a member of the Cardiff University Mountaineering Club! had a fractured ankle and will be in plaster for approximately 8-weeks
